Jay Dautcher Memorial Fund

We are gladdened to announce the establishment of a memorial fund for Jay at Indiana University, Bloomington, administered by Jay's dear friend and Uyghur expert Gardner Bovingdon. The purpose of the fund will be to recognize Jay's extraordinary scholarship in Uyghur studies, and to support and encourage young scholars in the field in his memory. IU is one of the few institutions in the US, and indeed the world, that trains students in and promotes research on the language, culture, and history of the world's roughly twelve million Uyghurs, as well as the contemporary affairs of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in Northwest China and the neighboring countries of Central Asia where most Uyghurs live. Given the tense situation in the region in recent years, there has unfortunately never been a more important time to support such study and research.
